CHICAGO (CBS) ― Police are searching for the assailant who shot and killed a 15-year-old boy and wounded a second victim in the Far South Side's West Pullman neighborhood.
As CBS 2's Joanie Lum reports, area residents say they have heard shootings nearby for three days, and have to gather their children inside to avoid the danger.
The victims were standing outside behind a building in the 100 block of West 116th Street about 10:10 p.m. Monday when a gunman came out of a gangway and began firing shots at the two, police News Affairs Officer David Banks said.
Percy Rounds, 15, of 105 W. 116th St., was shot at killed at his home and pronounced dead on the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Rounds suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was dead on the scene. A second male was shot in the thigh and taken in good condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Banks said.
The aunt of the two victims was tearful and distraught as she talked to reporters.
"They shot him in the head. They just shot him in the head. He was a good kid… he gave himself to the Lord, he's been going to church faithfully every Sunday; Bible study," she said. "He wasn't in a gang. He was a good kid overall."
The aunt is a nurse and tried to tend Rounds' wounds, but he was dead on the scene.
Witnesses said a lot of people were outdoors at the time.
